The government has issued a significant update that could transform parking regulations throughout England. The Department for Transport has confirmed that an announcement is expected shortly regarding granting English councils identical powers to those in Scotland to prohibit pavement parking.

During yesterday's Westminster Hall debate , the DfT faced calls to criminalise pavement parking nationwide - unless councils provide explicit authorisation. Scottish drivers already face a £100 penalty for pavement parking, reduced to £50 when settled within a fortnight, under the Transport (Scotland) Act 2019.
