ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — Carpenter's Place, a homeless shelter, is seeking $50,000 from the community to enhance security at its facility.

The funds will be used to upgrade the shelter's front door with security glass, a buzzer system, and cameras to ensure a safe environment for its guests.

The shelter serves unhoused individuals and wants to maintain a safe haven for them by addressing security concerns that have arisen.

"On the third day of my employment here, I unfortunately witnessed an older adult guest of ours assaulted at knife-point," said Carpenter's Place Executive Director Alberto Carrion.

Carrion emphasized the importance of a secure environment, noting that security issues can disrupt operations and affect both guests and staff.
