CHESTERTON — Police responding to a welfare check said they found an intoxicated 26-year-old woman lying on the rear seat of a vehicle with a 2-month-old child outside the Dairy Queen fast food restaurant along Indian Boundary Road.
The woman, identified as Haylie Hopper of LaPorte, was taken into custody and is charged with a felony count of neglect of a dependent and misdemeanor public intoxication, records show.
Chesterton police said they were directed to the site in question around 11:50 a.m. Monday and located the parked vehicle with all its windows rolled down. Officers did not see anyone in the vehicle until walking up to it and allegedly finding Hopper and child lying inside.
