BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — The Central Police Department is investigating a deadly crash involving a motorcycle that happened on Wednesday, Sept. 3.

The single-vehicle crash happened at 17125 Frenchtown Road. Central PD said officers were dispatched to the scene around 8:20 p.m. and found a man dead in the road next to a motorcycle.

The victim was identified as Basil Wayne Crawford, 51, of Pride.

Central Police Chief Roger Corcoran said the motorcycle was recently purchased by Crawford.

Investigators say it is unclear what led to the crash.

Police are awaiting Crawford's toxicology results.

The Central Police Department responded to the deadly crash with assistance from the East Baton Rouge Sheriff's Office as well as the Central Fire Department.
