BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) -- The Louisiana State Police is investigating after a two-vehicle crash on US 61 near Pond Road killed a St. Amant man on Saturday, Sept. 6.

LSP identified the man as Jeffery Luquette, 59, of St. Amant, after responding to the scene just after 3 p.m.

According to state police, a preliminary investigation revealed that Luquette was driving a 2022 Chevrolet Corvette heading north at a high rate of speed when he hit the back of a 2014 Chevrolet Tahoe, also traveling north. After the collision, the Corvette left the road and hit a tree.

Luquette, who was wearing a seatbelt, was pronounced dead at the scene. LSP said the driver of the Tahoe, also wearing a seatbelt, was minorly injured. LSP said they do not suspect impairment, but a standard toxicology sam
