At 2:23 p.m. on Thursday, the National Weather Service issued an updated severe thunderstorm warning in effect until 4 p.m. for Jefferson, Lewis and Oswego counties.

Residents should be prepared for wind gusts of up to 60 mph.

"At 2:22 p.m., a severe thunderstorm was located near Redfield, or 15 miles southeast of Sandy Island Beach State Park, moving northeast at 30 mph," states the weather service. "Expect damage to roofs, siding, and trees."

Locations impacted by the warning include Lowville, Redfield, Highmarket, Whetstone Gulf State Park, Richland, Denmark, New Bremen, Watson, Martinsburg and Williamstown. This includes Interstate 81 near exit 37.

The weather service comments, "For your protection move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a building."
