Starting Monday, Crown Point will enforce two-hour parking limits in the downtown square and two municipal lots from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.
A new handheld device with a license plate reader and GPS will help officers identify and ticket vehicles parked longer than allowed.
Violations will result in a $35 fine, increasing to $50 if not paid within 48 hours. Fire lane, hydrant and accessible parking fines are $100, increasing to $125 if unpaid in two days.
Timed parking on the square and select parking lots has been the city's policy since 1970 and had been amended slightly in 1991 and 1996, according to city ordinance 76.06.
Feedback from local businesses prompted the stricter enforcement to ensure parking availability for customers to support the
