JACKSON, MI – A mental health worker at a Michigan prison has been accused of having an inappropriate relationship with an inmate who was under her care.
Renee Nelson, 47, was arraigned on Wednesday, Sept. 4, on charges of second-degree criminal sexual conduct in Jackson’s 12th District Court, court records show. She faces up to 15 years in state prison if found guilty.
Jackson County Prosecutor Kelsey Guernsey said the charges stem from an incident that occurred while Nelson was employed as a mental health professional at the Michigan Department of Corrections. She allegedly had an inappropriate relationship with an inmate under her care, the prosecutor said.
Nelson was placed on an unpaid stop order by the Michigan Department of Corrections, according to the prosecutor’s office.
