EAST HARLEM, Manhattan (PIX11) -- The first day of school has now ended for the more than 900,000 students in New York City public schools, but time in the classroom without cellphones has just begun.
The change was met mostly with approval among parents who spoke with PIX11 News, but students met the change far less favorably.
They expressed concerns about safety, which were echoed by representatives of officers in charge of protecting school buildings. However, the mayor and the schools chancellor assured families that their students' security is not compromised.
