A Kings Mountain police officer made his first court appearance Sept. 2 after being charged with shooting his girlfriend in the thigh.
Edward Ray Padgett, 37, was charged with assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury for a domestic incident that happened at his home the night of Aug. 31, according to Kings Mountain Police.
He was arrested Sept. 1.
He was escorted into the courtroom following a slew of probation hearings. He stood beside his attorney, David Teddy.
Superior Court Judge Bill Stetzer read the charge against Padgett and asked if he understood it.
Assistant District Attorney Kevin Sherriff said the true bill came back, and Padgett was served with the indictment Sept. 2.
