Protestors gathered on West Franklin Boulevard on Labor Day to honor Ella May Wiggins, who died during the 1929 Loray Mill Strike in Gastonia.

On Sept. 14, 1929, Wiggins and several others participating in the Loray Mill strike were on their way to a union meeting in Gastonia when their truck was stopped by a group of men blocking the road near Bessemer City, according to Teresa Atchison, a protestor with Indivisible Gaston.
