Sam Kerr is to play her first match in more than 18 months after Chelsea boss Sonia Bompastor confirmed Australia’s skipper would feature in the English champions’ Women’s Super League season-opener.
Bompastor said the superstar striker would play some part in the Blues’ blockbuster clash with Manchester City on Friday evening (Saturday AEST) at Stamford Bridge.
It will be her first match since she suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury in January 2024 while on a training trip with the club.
“Sam Kerr is in the squad. She will be involved in the game. We don’t know yet if she will start or not but she’s in the squad,” said Bompastor on Thursday.
