PARK FOREST, La. (WAFB) - Residents in the Park Forest community are speaking out after a drive-by shooting over Labor Day weekend. Some are calling for a nearby event center to be shut down after police say an altercation there led to the shooting.

BRPD said that the shooting on Aug. 30 left two young men injured. The mother of one of the boys told WAFB that they are 14, 15, and 16 years old.

Two of those stray bullets hit the home of Dartanius Washington. For him, this was the last straw in a long line of issues with the Center Square Event Center, which opened in April 2024.

“It’s been several different instances I can speak on,” Washington said. “The cars zooming up and down the street when the place shuts down, and honestly, we haven’t had any of that until this place opened up.”
