RENO, Nev. (KOLO) - The Regional Fire Services Study Board and Fire Chiefs from around Washoe County are discussing the future of firefighting in our area.

“Washoe County has grown,” said Sparks City Councilman Joe Rodriguez. “It has changed, but what impacts Reno impacts Sparks. What impacts Sparks could impact Washoe County.”

This is a byproduct of Senate Bill 319 passing through the 2025 Nevada Legislature.

Senator Skip Daly and Angie Taylor sponsored the bill.

“It directed the 3 fire jurisdictions in our area, City of Reno, City of Sparks and Washoe County, to get together and form a regional fire board committee,” said Reno Fire Chief Dave Cochran.

The committee is tasked with doing a study to improve firefighting services and find ways to join all of the agencies’ efforts.
