Local school officials are working to prepare their budgets for next year anticipating less property tax revenue following the passage of Senate Enrolled Act 1 earlier this year. The legislation is projected to reduce property taxes statewide by around $1.3 billion over a three-year period starting in 2026.
Public school districts across Indiana are set to lose approximately $744 million in revenue over the next three years, according to the non-partisan Indiana Legislative Services Agency.
