TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) - Donna Adelson gasped and began sobbing as the judge read the three verdicts aloud: guilty of first degree murder, guilty of conspiracy and guilty of solicitation in the 2014 shooting death of her former son in law Dan Markel.

The verdict comes after a jury deliberated for just over 3 hours on Thursday.

Judge Everett cautioned Donna Adelson to control her emotions and briefly sent jurors out of the courtroom to allow her to collect herself.

Defense attorney Josh Zelman placed his hand on Donna’s shoulder as she wept.

Dan Markel’s family, who has been in the courtroom each day of the trial, seemed calm after the verdict was read.

Ruth Markel, Dan Markel’s mother, gave a victim impact statement just minutes after the verdict was returned.
