ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – A New Mexico man who police said set his aunt's house on fire and attacked her will remain in custody as his case goes through trial. On August 10, police said Richard Seago Jr. violently assaulted his aunt in her home while she was asleep. Police said they found her on the ground in her smoke-filled home with a skull fracture, facial lacerations, and bruising.

According to court documents, Seago Jr. later called dispatch to confess to attacking his aunt and setting her home on fire, stating he knew he was going to prison. The Bernalillo County District Attorney said that while his aunt was hospitalized, he used her debit card across several states, withdrawing over $2,000 in cash.
