Boston firefighters responded to Stony Brook Reservation between Washington Street and Enneking Parkway near Lagrange Street shortly after 4:30 p.m. for what turned into a two-alarm fire.

The Boston Fire Department reports firefighters laid down some 3,000 feet of hose to connect to hydrants along Washington Street, but eventually began spraying down possible hot spots with foam to stop the fire from rekindling in the dry conditions in the forest. One of the hydrants they used was near St. John Chrysostom at Washington and Lagrange streets.

Firefighters also used shovels, rakes and axes to try to keep the fire from spreading past its initial football-field-sized area.

Firefighters remained in the woods well past 6:30 p.m.
