LEESBURG, Fla. – Several expectant mothers and families are in shock after learning UF Health Leesburg Hospital is closing its labor and delivery unit in just 45 days.
It means some moms in the area will have to drive nearly an hour to get the care they need.
Alexis Strong, who is currently expecting, says UF Health Leesburg Hospital saved her life in 2019 when her artery ruptured after giving birth to her daughter.
“They didn’t have time for an ambulance to take me directly across the street, so I rode in my doctor’s car across the street to have an emergency procedure performed to save my life. I didn’t have more than four minutes,” Strong recalled.
