HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - A costly lesson for an Oahu man who used Facebook Marketplace to rent out a family property and has spent months in court to get it back from tenants who refuse to pay rent.

And he wasn’t the only landlord to evict them.

“I’ve been able to be a landlord and didn’t have any problems with anybody ever,” said Will Choy, who manages a 3-bedroom, 3-bath house and detached cottage on Nawiliwili Street in Hawaii Kai for his mentally and physically disabled sister, as her legal guardian and trustee.

“She had a near fatal accident in 2022,” he explained. “So we rent the house out to get the money to pay for the care and actually the long term plan is we want to move my sister back into the house.”
