The small European nation of Luxembourg will soon have a new head of state as its current ruler prepares to abdicate in less than a month.

Changes are underway for the son of the Grand Duke Henri , 70, to take the throne after a 25-year reign.

Luxembourg will become the latest country across the region to have a new couple at its core after recent changes in Denmark .

Grand Duke Henri will officially abdicate on Friday October 3 , paving the way for his son's accession to the throne.

 Hereditary Grand Duke Guillaume – also known as Crown Prince – will succeed his father as Grand Duke.

His wife, Crown Princess Stephanie, will become Grand Duchess Stephanie.

They will officially be known as the Grand Ducal couple.
