ACWORTH, Ga. — Acworth Police are warning residents about the importance of safeguarding personal information and financial assets after an elderly man fell victim to a scheme.

The son of the victim called police from New Jersey after his father sent a large sum of money to an Acworth address, police said.

Detectives collaborated with the United States Postal Service to quickly intercept the money before it reached the Georgia address.

Police said the money was safely returned to the victim after it was retrieved.

The Criminal Investigations Division is continuing to investigate this case.
