A mother and son have been cleared of kidnapping and abduction charges after they took the woman's two teenage sons interstate and away from their father.

The jury took just five hours to deliver its not guilty verdicts after a two-week trial.

The court heard the son had intercepted his two brothers, aged 13 and 14, as they walked to school, inviting them to come to see their mother who they hadn't seen for several years.

'I am with someone I know well, but don't tell anyone'

The older brother asked the boys if they had felt safe at home, and if everything was alright.

One of them said things were a bit unfair because his stepsister was allowed to watch TV more often than him.
