MEDINA, Ohio -- Most of the 218 active volunteers at the Medina County Park District would be very happy to help without a formal thank you.

But once a year, the park district hosts a Volunteer Appreciation Night featuring food, fun and awards.

The volunteers appreciate the chance to socialize and be recognized. This year, the event was held Aug. 14 at Buffalo Creek Retreat.

To celebrate the 60th anniversary of the park district’s existence, the event was themed “Back to the Future,” with a nod to the iconic 1985 sci-fi film with its plutonium-powered DeLorean.

The evening began with social time and a chance to complete a 60th anniversary trivia test. Each table of guests completed a questionnaire with questions such as “What is the smallest park?” “When will the park be on the next le
