There are currently 1.56 million people unemployed in Canada and the national unemployment rate stands at 6.9%. Still, we continue to import people into Canada through both the Temporary Foreign Worker Program or the International Mobility Program.
We also have allowed the record number of international students allowed into Canada to gain work permits, along with the record number of asylum claimants showing up in this country who are allowed to work.
Is it any wonder that youth unemployment, those aged 15-25, sits at 14.6% nationally ? That figure is 16% in Ontario, and 20.3% in Alberta as the entry level jobs that once went to local students are farmed out to people in the TFW program or other streams of employment for temporary residents.
