Three British holidaymakers have been killed in the horror Lisbon funicular crash which has claimed the lives of at least 16 people, Portuguese police have confirmed. ‌

On Wednesday night, the popular Glória funicular derailed and crashed into a building. Alongside the tragic death, over 20 people injured have also been left injured. ‌

One of the trams was sent hurtling down one of the city's hills before it smashed into a building and was left in pieces, reports the Mirror . ‌

The fatal tragedy was reportedly caused by a cable coming loose along the railway route. Investigations by the national transport safety authority, the company that owns the funicular and the public prosecutor's office have been launched.
