Two Canadians were confirmed dead in a streetcar accident in Lisbon, Portugal, that resulted in 16 fatalities on Wednesday. The crash involved the Elevador da Gloria, a popular streetcar that is a national monument, which derailed while carrying a mix of locals and tourists.
In addition to the Canadians, the deceased included five Portuguese nationals, three British citizens, two South Koreans, one American, one French citizen, one Swiss national, and one Ukrainian. This information was released by police following forensic identification of the victims.
The French Foreign Ministry reported that one of the victims was a woman who held dual citizenship in France and Canada. The Portuguese government's Office for Air and Rail Accident Investigations has completed its analysis of the wreckage and plans to release a preliminary technical report on Friday. However, it remains uncertain how detailed this report will be.
