CHICO, Calif. - Libraries in Butte County are offering a library fine amnesty program for the month of September.
This new initiative, unanimously approved at the most recent meeting of the Butte County Board of Supervisors, will allow patrons to return overdue items without paying late fees.
Library administrator Misty Wright proposed that Butte County libraries implement an amnesty program, citing the benefits seen at other libraries that have run programs to waive late fees.
The fines are not automatically removed from an account during this program, though; individuals must call or visit a branch in person to take advantage of this opportunity.
The amnesty program aims to get missing books and other items back into circulation and save both patrons and the library money.
