CLEVELAND, Ohio — The $1.7 billion Powerball jackpot currently is the third largest in the lottery’s history, trailing only a $1.765 billion prize won in 2023 and a $2.04 billion prize won in 2022.

Will it push into second place by the time of the drawing on Saturday, Sept. 6, 2025? There’s probably a good chance because of increased ticket sales.

The massive jackpot obviously is the focus of lottery players this weekend. But Friday, Sept. 5 features a Mega Millions jackpot estimated at $336 million and Saturday’s Classic Lotto jackpot is $7.5 million.

The odds are long, but someone could be celebrating a major income upgrade this weekend.
