A driver in St. Thomas is charged with careless driving after a child was hit by a vehicle in a school zone in the city’s south end, police say.

Officers responded at around 8:40 a.m. on Thursday to the collision after police received multiple 911 calls about a child being hit by a vehicle, St. Thomas police said, but they did not specify where the collision happened.

An 11-year-old child was taken to hospital for assessment but was medically cleared and released without any apparent injury, police said.

St. Thomas police said the child was struck during the morning school commute.
