Oklahoma Highway Patrol officers on Friday cleared out homeless encampments along Interstate 244 near the Tulsa County jail.
The officers also cleared the homeless from under the I-244 bridges that pass over Archer Street and Maybelle Avenue, popular gathering places for the homeless.
Gov. Kevin Stitt only a day before had directed OHP to begin Operation SAFE , an effort to “restore order and safety to Tulsa by clearing homeless encampments, trash, and criminal activity from state-owned property inside the city."
Many of the city’s social services providers, including the Salvation Army and Tulsa Day Center, are located along what is commonly described as the Archer corridor.
