HUNDREDS of thousands of commuters in California have been left outraged after essential public transportation services were abruptly halted Friday morning.
The Bay Area Rapid Transit District (BART) said a "computer equipment problem" forced them to stop all train services.
BART announced the outage at 5 am and urged Californians to find alternative means to get to work .
Officials didn't give any details on when the railways would be up and running.
BART spokesperson Alicia Trost appeared to indicate that issues arose on Thursday night when workers were doing maintenance.
“We do maintenance every night, whether it’s preventative maintenance or upgrading systems, doing software upgrades, doing track work," she told CW affiliate KRON .
“So every night this work happens and typi
