AVA, NY (WUTR/WFXV/WPNY) -- The National Weather Service in Binghamton confirmed on Friday that a tornado touched down in the Town of Ava Thursday evening.

The National Weather Service confirmed on Friday, September 5, that an EF-0 tornado touched down in Ava during Thursday's severe storms. According to surveys done by the National Weather Service, the tornado set down with estimated speeds of 80 miles per hour.

The NWS also states that the tornado followed a path up to two miles in length. A final assessment is scheduled for approximately 5 pm on Friday.

During yesterday's storms, the NWS in Binghamton estimated that municipalities in Oneida County received between half an inch and three-quarters of an inch of rain. Otsego County towns received between a third and three-quarters of an
