Today is National Food Bank Day, a time to recognize the need for food banks, especially in this province.

Sixty different food banks make up the Community Food Sharing Association and general manager Tina Bishop says they serve more than 15,000 people a month.

She says such operations are facing a lot of added pressure in light of the rising cost of living and grocery prices in particular.

“Everything is increasing,” says Bishop, while “incomes are pretty much staying the same, and people are really, really struggling. We’re seeing a lot more working families having to avail of the services of the food bank, and certainly a lot more seniors as well.”

That’s why, says Bishop, community, business and corporate donations are always appreciated.
