With a provincial election call imminent, a MUN political science professor is emphasizing the importance of a strong opposition in government.

The writ has yet to be dropped, but the election has to be called sooner rather than later to meet the October 14th deadline outlined in legislation.

Amanda Bittner argues that the strength of the opposition is more important than the strength of government itself.

She says she would always rather see a minority government with a large opposition that can hold government’s feet to the fire when making big decisions, such as those coming up regarding Churchill Falls.
