The Tories are promising a significant expansion of ferry capacity in Newfoundland and Labrador if elected to government.

Leader Tony Wakeham says they would immediately release a tender for the acquisition of a swing vessel for Fogo Island/Change Islands, and Bell Island, and then do a deeper analysis into building three more ferries in this province.

He says a cost analysis will come later.

He says it’s time we started creating industries in Newfoundland and Labrador.

Elvis Loveless, the minister of transportation and infrastructure, wonders how he plans to pay for it all. He says the province needs a master plan, but that takes time. Ideally, Loveless would like to see any new vessels built in the homeland.
