WASHINGTON — Georgia will send 300 National Guard troops to Washington, D.C., its Gov. Brian Kemp announced on Friday, becoming the seventh GOP executive to send National Guard troops into the District.
It was a renewed calling for backup as the Peach State joins a chorus of Republican-led states with Guard troops in D.C., nearly four weeks after the most recent addition of guardsmen were called in from Louisiana.
"Georgia is proud to stand with the Trump administration in its mission to ensure the security and beauty of our nation's capital," Kemp wrote on Friday. "We share a commitment to upholding public safety."
