(Gray News) - Four hikers were rescued in Upstate New York after they got lost while experiencing a “debilitating psychedelic mushroom high” over the Labor Day weekend, according to officials.

On August 29, the hikers were in the Slide Mountain Wilderness near Giant Ledge, an interconnected trail hike ranging from 1,100 to 2,600 feet in elevation, when they sent a text message reporting that they were lost, according to a New York State Troopers press release .

The caller told dispatchers that the group had consumed mushrooms and that one individual was experiencing a ‘debilitating high.’

The group was later helped down the trail and escorted to the trailhead, where they were evaluated by Shandaken Ambulance.
