DAWSON COUNTY, Neb. (KSNB) - A Kearney couple has died after their vehicle was hit by a train Friday morning.
The Dawson County Sheriff’s Office was called out to a crash involving a train just before 8:30 a.m. at the intersection of Road 427 and Highway 30.
Deputies responded to the scene, where they found a white Buick Enclave in the south ditch north of the railroad tracks with serious damage.
Inside the vehicle, they found both the driver 73-year-old Scott Maline and his passenger 71-year-old Kathy Maline deceased.
The sheriff’s office determined that the Maline’s vehicle was traveling northbound on Road 427 when it entered the uncontrolled railroad crossing and was hit by an empty westbound Union Pacific train.
DCSO was assisted at the scene by the Nebraska State Patrol, Lexingto
