OAK HILL, WV (WVNS) - The weekend after Labor Day is the perfect opportunity to honor the grandparents in your life. Did you know that the 'Grandparents Day' Holiday started right in the Mountain State?

Grandparents Day was founded by Marian McQuade, a West Virginia woman and mother of 15 children. She was also a member of the congregation at Oak Hill Baptist Church. McQuade was also an advocate for fighting against elderly loneliness.

"Many people in our area, I don't think know the history we have in our area. Mary McQuaid is actually a founder and belonged to this church. She and her husband, and their kids, grew up in this church. So, we're having a day to celebrate them to honor her family," said Mona Goodall, a member of the Growth Committee.
