BELTON, Texas — Belton ISD's colors may be red and white, but the district just got a little greener.

On Friday, Sept. 5, Belton ISD's Charter Oak Elementary cut the ribbon on a new addition for students, the Cheetah Grove garden.

Each grade level, including special education classrooms, has its own garden bed to take care of in Cheetah Grove, giving students opportunities to "learn, grow and collaborate" through hands-on experience, the district said. Third graders are reportedly growing cabbage through the Bonnie's Cabbage Program.

BISD said Cheetah Grove was made possible through the efforts and vision of Principal Ashlie Thomas. The district said Thomas shared the idea of a garden at the school with PTO Principal Mickayla Lewis last year, and worked with PTO members and local busine
