AUGUSTA, Maine — A group of Republican lawmakers in Maine is calling for an investigation into the state's Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) to learn how the agency dealt with a teenager now accused of killing his relatives .

State Sen. Jeff Timberlake (R-Androscoggin) is one of several legislators who signed a letter urging the investigation into DHHS’s Office of Child and Family Services.

“They allowed this to happen,” Timberlake said. “They need to be held responsible, they need to answer these questions.”

The juvenile, who NEWS CENTER Maine is not naming because of his age, is accused of killing 22-year-old Tyler Carter and his adoptive father, 43-year-old Christopher Hunnewell, at their home in Chelsea this past June.
