It's already Week 3 of the high school football season, but Edgewood (2-0) has an important game Friday when it takes on Class 1A No. 1 South Putnam (2-0) in the Western Indiana Conference opener for both teams.

Conference Indiana play also kicks off for Bloomington North and South. The Cougars (1-1) travel to Terre Haute South (1-1), which is coming off a 46-36 shootout win over Kokomo while the 5A No. 2 Panthers (2-0) are on the other side of Terre Haute for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff at North (0-2) . The struggling Patriots, who have been outscored 90-15.

Owen Valley (1-1) heads up US 231 to renew its rivalry with former WIC member Cloverdale (0-2), while Eastern Greene (0-2) has another tough assignment at North Daviess (2-0), which is giving up just 9.5 ppg.
