WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump said Friday that the U.S. and specifically his golf club in southern Florida will host next year’s Group of 20 summit, the annual gathering of some of the world's largest economies.

"The United States will have the honor of hosting exactly that -- the G20 summit -- right here in America for the first time in nearly 20 years," Trump said, noting it will take place during the same year that America will mark its 250th anniversary as a naiton.

Next year's summit is set to take place in December.

Trump also used the announcement to confirm he would not attend this year's convening, set to take place in South Africa in November.
