UNIVERSITY PARK, Texas — An SMU alert Friday that warned of an active shooter on campus was just a test of the university's emergency notification system and there was no danger on campus, the school confirmed.
SMU said in a post on social media shortly before 4:30 p.m. that the test was concluded and normal activities were allowed to continue on campus.
"Please be assured this was only part of the planned test of our emergency notification systems—there was never a danger to campus. We know the unexpected message may have caused concern, and we truly appreciate your patience. Regular testing helps us ensure that, in the unlikely event of a real emergency, our community can be quickly informed. The test is now complete, and normal activities may continue. Thank you for your partnership i
