A historic wedding venue north-west of Sydney was destroyed by a fire late on Friday night, forcing many couples to find last-minute arrangements for their special day.

More than 80 firefighters were called to the venue, Loxley on Bellbird Hill, in Kurrajong Hills about 7pm after receiving reports of a fire in the main building.

Footage from the scene showed flames coming out of windows and on the building’s roof as numerous fire crews doused the area in water.

There were no events happening at the venue during the fire. A 40-year-old man, the son of the property’s owner, was treated for minor burns after trying to extinguish the fire, NSW Police and the Rural Fire Service (RFS) said.
