TUCSON, Ariz. (13 News) - Armory Park closed for renovations on Tuesday, and concerns have been raised about how it will impact crime in the area.

“The park is not the issue, it’s the services that are not being offered to these individuals, it’s the crime, it’s the drug use, it’s the larger footprint of it,” said Tucson Police Officer Association President Darryl Hussman.

Hussman said that crime has been an issue at Armory Park over the past few years, especially at night when the park is supposed to be closed to the public.

“We’re always getting calls from the community about concerns that’s going on here, whether it be fights, whether it be just vagrancy, whatever it is, whatever angle,” Hussman said.
