The Orleans Parish Sheriff's Office is continuing to manage the ransomware cyber attack.

OPSO confirmed that the AS400 system, the internal process platform responsible for communication with external criminal justice partners, bond transactions and jail releases is now back online and operational. Advertisement

The cyberattack was reported on Thursday around 4:30 a.m.

The incident was detected by the sheriff's office at 8 a.m. when employees couldn't access their computers.

According to the Orleans Parish Sheriff's Office, the cyberattack was a ransomware attack and did not compromise the jail's computer system.

OPSO says more than a dozen computers connected to OPSO system have been compromised by the attack.
