NEW ORLEANS — After a the Orleans Parish Sheriff’s Office says its AS400 system, which handles bond transactions, jail releases, and communication with criminal justice partners, is back online.
While the jail itself wasn't affected, the inmate management system that the courts and the DA's office rely on was crippled. Some of the defendants and their families were stuck in limbo. but after two days he was still in jail.
On Thursday, around 4:30 a.m., OPSO was targeted by a ransomware cyberattack. The breach was first discovered by OPSO’s IT team around 8:00 a.m., after staff reported difficulties accessing their computers.
