HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - The Coast Guard is warning residents and boaters to take precautions and follow weather warnings Hurricane Kiko is forecasted to impact Hawaii in a matter of days.

The Coast Guard says they expect swells generated by Kiko to start reaching the state toward the end of the weekend, which could bring life-threatening surf and rip currents.

As a reminder, the Coast Guard’s ability to conduct rescues can be diminished or unavailable during the height of the incoming storm.

The public is reminded to consider the following precaution as recommended by the Coast Guard.

Mariners should store watercraft in a secure location.

Secure all paddles so they do not end up in the water, which can cause false distress alerts.
